Samsung's The Premiere 5 brings touch interaction to IFA 2026, with conditions
Touch interaction on Samsung's £1,699 Premiere 5 at IFA 2026 needs a separately sold Touch Stand, and Samsung's own small print says not every app supports it.

The Premiere 5 was on Samsung's stand at IFA 2026, which ran in Berlin from 4 to 8 September, and the touch interaction that makes it notable arrives with conditions attached. The organiser's own exhibitor listing names it among the products Samsung showed, describing a compact ultra-short-throw projector with triple-laser technology that can throw an image onto walls, floors or tables at between 20 and 100 inches.
Samsung's wider IFA 2026 activity was unusual: the company's main showcase, Samsung Connect, ran off the main fairground at Humboldt Carré from 2 to 6 September, while the IFA listing still places Samsung in the Palais and CityCube halls. The Premiere 5 sat in the consumer half of that split.
Touch needs the stand, and the app has to play along
The interactive claim is real but conditional. Touch does not come from the projector alone. It requires the Touch Stand, a two-part accessory that clips to either side of the chassis while the projector lies on its side and throws downward. The stand adds an IR camera and an IR laser module, and reporting from the product's earlier Korean launch puts the system at up to 10 simultaneous touch points.
Samsung is unusually blunt in its own small print. Its UK product page states that touch interaction is only available with the Touch Stand connected, that it may not function properly depending on setup and the condition of the projection surface, and that support varies by app because some apps do not support the feature at all.
That last point matters most. A touch overlay driven by an IR camera is a hardware capability; whether a given app or game responds sensibly to it is a software question, and Samsung is not promising that it will.
The projector underneath, and what £1,699 buys
Stripped of the stand, The Premiere 5 is a small Full HD DLP projector with a red, green and blue laser light source. Samsung quotes 1,000:1 native contrast and lists Quantum HDR, HDR10+ and HLG support, with picture processing handled by its NQP AI processor. Independent coverage of the launch cites 560 ISO lumens, 154% DCI-P3 coverage and a 450,000:1 dynamic contrast figure.
560 ISO lumens is the number that sets expectations. This is an evening and controlled-light device at 100 inches, and Samsung's own floor-projection range is quoted as a much smaller 20 to 40 inches, which is where the touch use case lives anyway.
Placement is tight: Samsung's spec sheet gives roughly 22cm from the wall for a 60-inch image and about 43cm for 100 inches. Tizen with Smart Hub, a SmartThings hub, Gaming Hub, AirPlay 2, two micro-HDMI inputs, USB-C, Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.2 round out the package, alongside a 10W two-channel speaker system with Dolby Atmos and Object Tracking Sound Lite.
Samsung's UK business store lists The Premiere 5 at £1,699, with the Touch Stand sold separately. At that price the projector is competing with 4K ultra-short-throw models that are far brighter, so the money is clearly being spent on the form factor and the interaction rather than on cinema performance.
Whether touch tracking works on a rug
Everything still to settle is about surfaces and software. How reliable is touch tracking on a rug, a wooden table or a textured wall, given Samsung's own surface caveat? How many mainstream apps behave properly under an IR touch layer? How does a 560-lumen Full HD image hold up on a floor in a lit room, and how much brightness survives after the automatic keystone and edge-blending tools have squared the picture? Until those are answered, The Premiere 5 is best read as a lifestyle experiment with a real projector inside, not a home cinema purchase.
