Optoma launches UHR90DV RGB triple-laser home-cinema flagship

Dolby Vision and IMAX Enhanced on one RGB triple-laser projector: Optoma's UHR90DV flagship claims 5,000 lumens and 96% BT.2020, launched in Tokyo with AVAC handling installs.

Optoma launches UHR90DV RGB triple-laser home-cinema flagship

Dolby Vision and IMAX Enhanced have never shared a projector, according to Optoma, and the UHR90DV is its case for putting them on one. Launched in Tokyo on 16 July 2026 as the company's home-cinema flagship, it is an RGB triple-laser 4K model quoted at 5,000 lumens, 96% BT.2020 colour coverage, HDR10+ and Filmmaker Mode.

The two certifications have tended to land on different kinds of machine. Dolby Vision has mostly appeared on brightness-and-colour-focused laser models, while IMAX Enhanced has usually gone to projectors tuned for cinematic contrast and colour accuracy. Putting both on one flagship is Optoma's way of arguing the UHR90DV should not be pigeonholed into either camp.

PureEngine Ultra and the numbers behind the claim

Optoma quotes a 4,500,000:1 contrast ratio and 98% DCI-P3 coverage alongside the 96% BT.2020 figure, processed through what it calls PureEngine Ultra, a suite the company breaks down into PureContrast, PureLight, PureDetail and PureColor sub-systems. The laser light source is rated for up to 30,000 hours in Eco mode, and Optoma lists a maximum screen size of 300 inches.

Installation hardware is motorized throughout: a 1.6x optical zoom, motorized focus, and lens shift of up to plus-or-minus 55% vertically and 25% horizontally, with five programmable lens-memory presets for switching between screen formats or seating positions. Connectivity includes HDMI 2.1 with Auto Low Latency Mode, and Optoma quotes input lag as low as 8.5ms at 1080p and 240Hz, a figure aimed as much at gaming as at cinema use.

None of these numbers has been checked outside Optoma yet. The one to watch is the contrast figure: whether 4,500,000:1 shows up as a deep black level in a dark room, or only as a flattering on/off ratio.

Sold through AVAC showrooms in Japan

The company announced the launch in Tokyo alongside a strengthened partnership with specialist retailer AVAC, which operates showrooms in Tokyo's Shinjuku district, Yokohama, Osaka, Nagoya and Fukuoka. AVAC will handle consultation, purchase and professional installation for the projector.

For a premium projector that is the part of the announcement that decides purchases. Demo access, installation advice and after-sales support often shape the buying decision as much as the specification sheet does, and this is a unit whose lens-shift range and 300-inch ceiling assume a proper calibrated install rather than a shelf placement.
