CEDIA 2026 Best of Show highlights complete home-cinema systems
Only two projectors, AWOL's LuxVision and Barco's Freya Plus SST, made ProjectorCentral's seven-product CEDIA 2026 Best of Show list; players, processors and screens filled the rest.

Only two of the seven products on ProjectorCentral's CEDIA 2026 Best of Show list are projectors. The recognised products are AWOL's LuxVision UST projector, Barco's Freya Plus SST, Kaleidescape's Strato K, madVR's Envy Extreme MK3, Magnetar's ULTIMA, Screen Innovations' KAOS 360 and Stewart's Director's Choice Generation 2, and read together they are more revealing as a system snapshot than as an awards roll call.
That mix is how high-end home cinema works. The projector is central, but the source player, video processing, screen and installation mechanics all shape the final result, and a high-output projector on an unsuitable screen or a weak signal chain does not become a reference cinema simply because it is expensive. Awards are a shortlist, not a purchasing recommendation. The sensible order is to fix the room constraints first, screen size, seating distance, light control, sources, sound system and installation flexibility, and only then decide where premium spend on a processor, a transport or a screen matched to a specific projector will make a visible difference.
The projector and the processing chain behind it
AWOL's LuxVision took its award for opening a new category of flagship ultra-short-throw projection, pairing 4K output at up to 120Hz with intelligent installation tools and a design pitched at luxury interiors rather than a dedicated equipment room. Its image, supplied for this coverage, doubles as the launch photo for AWOL's earlier LuxVision announcement.
Barco's Freya Plus SST is a three-chip native 4K DLP projector with RGB laser illumination, rated at up to 13,500 ANSI lumens and built on the same DCI-derived platform as Barco's commercial-cinema line. It ships with the company's ICMP-X Alchemy processor, which handles cinema-grade image processing, content management and media-server duties while still accepting ordinary HDMI sources, so a single room can double as a professional screening space and a residential theatre.
madVR's Envy Extreme MK3 is a next-generation 8K video processor built to handle full 48Gbps 8K signal paths with AI-assisted upscaling and calibration tools, aimed at installers who need a single processing box to correct and unify signals from multiple sources before they reach the screen.
The source, transport and screen hardware
Kaleidescape's Strato K, a $4,995 flagship movie player, won for introducing native 8K playback in SDR and HDR10, making it the first player certified by the 8K Association, alongside a new 4K Cinematic format using its extra processing headroom for full 4:4:4 chroma and higher bitrates than standard 4K files. Magnetar's ULTIMA is a universal disc transport reading UHD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD, CD, SACD and DVD-Audio alongside USB and network-attached high-resolution audio, with Dolby Vision and HDR10+ decoding, letting one component cover almost every physical format found in premium theatres.
Screen Innovations' KAOS 360 is a heavy-duty, dual-sided motorised rear-projection screen combining the brand's 360-degree optical coating with its Onyx Retention System, built for outdoor and rear-projection installs that need to survive repeated handling. Stewart's Director's Choice Generation 2 is a slimmer four-way masking screen shown at CEDIA in a 215-inch, 2.0:1 configuration paired with Epson's QL7000 laser projector, illustrating how a masking screen and a specific projector are increasingly marketed as one system rather than separate purchases.
