What actually mattered at IFA 2026 for projector buyers
Native 4K at 120Hz became the UST benchmark at IFA 2026, no projector won a top award, and XGIMI's Elfin Flip and MIRA got firm European prices.

Native 4K at 120Hz was, until this month, a long-throw and gaming-monitor idea. At IFA 2026, which ran at Messe Berlin from 4 to 8 September, it became the thing every serious ultra-short-throw brand claimed. Almost everything else at the show was a variation on that, or a reaction to it.
The official awards did not crown a projector
Who awarded what deserves precision. The IFA Innovation Awards 2026 gave their three Master Awards to the Anker RIC Hearing Aids Pro as Best of IFA, the Insta360 Luna Ultra as Best of Tech, and LG Electronics as Best Brand. No projector took a top prize.
Projectors instead appear as Honorees in the Best in Home & Entertainment category, where the list includes the XGIMI Aura 3 Max, AWOL Vision's LuxVision, the Hisense Laser Projector XR10 and two Aurzen models, the ZIP and the BOOM mini. Aurzen's own release counts 11 separate honours across its lineup, most of them press mentions rather than juried awards.
Editorial verdicts diverged. Expert Reviews called the Aura 3 Max "one of the best things I've seen at IFA 2026". GearBrain's Editor's Choice list, published on 8 September, named exactly one projector among 17 winners: the JMGO IRIS Ultra Max. The idea that a single model was declared the show's strongest projector does not hold up.
The 4K/120Hz UST fight
XGIMI's Aura 3 Max is the loudest entry, quoted at up to 5,700 ISO lumens, 8,000:1 native contrast, a 0.163:1 throw ratio that puts a 120-inch image roughly 20cm from the wall, plus Google TV, Dolby Vision, IMAX Enhanced and 80W of Harman Kardon audio. AWOL Vision's LuxVision answers with 6,000 ISO lumens at 4K/120Hz, and JMGO's IRIS Ultra Max claims 6,500 ISO lumens and 10,000:1 native contrast. Hisense brought the C3 series with gaming support quoted to 240Hz.
Three brands claiming native contrast between 8,000:1 and 10,000:1 in the same week is a marketing convergence, not evidence. Dual-iris systems do improve perceived contrast, but the numbers are unverified.
Where the prices actually landed
European pricing was the most useful thing on offer. XGIMI's EU launch page lists the Elfin Flip 4K at €999, the Elfin Flip Laser at €799 and MIRA at €1,699: real numbers you can buy against. The Aura 3 series is different, with super early bird pricing of €2,199 for the Max and €1,999 for the Pro against stated recommended prices of €4,999 and €3,999, ahead of a Kickstarter launch on 20 October.
That gap deserves scepticism. A recommended price that exists mainly to make a crowdfunding tier look generous is not a market price.
BenQ's first RGB lasers, Samsung's Premiere 5 and the tri-folds
BenQ used the show for its first RGB triple-laser projectors, the W4200 and TK715i, and Samsung put the touch-capable Premiere 5 in front of European visitors. At the other extreme, Aurzen's tri-fold ZIP Pro and Wanbo's X7 Pro Max show that the compact category is now competing on optics and Google TV rather than on novelty alone.
XGIMI's own IFA recap also covered the Titan Noir range, which the company says is the most funded projector on Kickstarter at $19.37 million, alongside the Elfin Flip 4K and MIRA.
